I'm playing with doing "Connla and the Fairy Maiden" as a vis-dev story for my portfolio.  These are some VERY sketchy playing around, plus I wanted to make a snazzy design sheet after I saw all of the concept art from "Man of Steel" yesterday at Siggraph :)

Forest - first pass at rendering

Rendered out the forest and dropped some colour holds on the linework.  Cast shadows and visible light to follow.

Starting a painting

I'm going to be working on this one for the next couple of days, here's the starting line drawing I did yesterday afternoon....took about 90 minutes to do the pencils and inks.

This morning I created flat colours for everything so I can use them for selections as I paint.  These colours are not really meant to be accurate or realistic, although I did think about value relationships as I was doing it.

The next steps will be to lay in basic lighting information, I should get to that later today or tomorrow.

I'm enjoying doing these...they tend to get done in that time between serious project work and lunch :)

First time back since the semester ended in April.  Did it entirely digitally and was kinda surprised at how well they turned out.
