Artist Series - Day 43: Alex Toth

Again, if I go back to the cartoons of my childhood, I owe a tremendous amount to Alex Toth.  He designed 75% of the characters I loved as a little boy.  Jonny Quest, Space Ghost, Thundarr the Barbarian, and of course, The Superfriends...the list literally goes on and on.

The official Alex Toth website

There is an amazing three-book biography series that features Toth and his work:  "Genius: Isolated", "Genius: Illustrated" and "Genius: Animated" (comes out this Spring!).  Highly recommended, you can read about the guy and they've collected so much of his work across comics, animation and personal stuff.

Artist Series - Day 42: Jason Scheier

Ok, so yesterday, I was waiting around at Concept Design Academy yesterday for my class to start, and this guy walks up...we start talking and he says he's taking the "Digital Painting" class.  We talk a bit more, he tells us what the class is about, and after stringing us along, it comes out that he's the teacher!

Ladies and gentlemen, Jason Scheier!

Artist Series - Day 41: Loish

Ok, if you frequent DeviantArt at all, you probably know Lois Van Baarle, a.k.a. Loish.  She is one of the most popular dA artists of all time, and I have to say, her stuff is fairly appealing :)

http://loish.net/ is her official site.

Artist Series - Day 40: Goro Fujita

I actually found this artist via the Facebook "Spit Paint" group.  From what I can tell, he does Visual Development in the Northern  California area, and he is sick talented.

Artist Series - Day 39: Frederic Edwin Church

As an outgrowth of Fowkes from yesterday, Church is a fantastic painter who uses light incredibly well.  He was Hudson River School, which is the landscape group that inspired a whole generation of matte painters and concept artists.

Artist Series - Day 38: Nathan Fowkes

Another amazing animation artist, Nathan's use of colour is fantastic....which is fitting since I believe he is currently doing colour keys.

From his work at Dreamworks...

To his plein air quick sketches...

To his just plain amazing sense of design.

Yeah, I would love to pick his brain for hours :)
