Butterfly Mask

Enjoying painting in photoshop, I've done a lot of pencil lately and I wanted to play around with something else. This was done as a "mock-ccg" concept.

Swordswoman

Done late last night at Grind, didn't get a chance to scan it before bed.

Screaming Man

Just today's figure...realized as I scanned it that his right arm is way too small...*sigh*

[EDIT] Ok, I tried to fix the arm :)

Matte Painting - Medieval City

Here is the final(?) version of my matte painting for CGTantra.com's monthly challenge...unless I see something jump out at me in the next 12 hours that has to be fixed :)

Soldier of Fortune

After I finished the Air Marshall, I broke in my new sketchbook with this pencil drawing. Trying to work on clothing, particularly clothing that's not on the reference photo.

Air Marshall

My friends have created a blog where they work on a concept and then post the results...they have graciously allowed me to join, and the current topic is "Air Marshall." I thought about doing something more sci-fi, but ultimately, I liked the idea of a tough-as-nails fairy enforcing the rules of the sky.

Tonight's life drawing at Emily Carr. I like this model, he does 99% fantasy-type poses, sometimes described as "too Frazetta-esque", but I kinda enjoy the medieval cheese ;)

Girls in the City

Just somethings I was playing around with tonight after drinking entirely too much espresso.

Cyber-Fish

From the Vancouver Sketch Group topic "Cybernetic Housepets"...here are jet-propelled fish that carry their own water tanks.

Girl with Sword

I've been trying to do at least one pencil sketch of a person a day, in between all the other stuff that's going on. Here's today's - simple, but it was fun :)

Dumpling Airship

This was the sketchgroup topic of Saturday...I decided to move away from the obvious dumpling visuals and take it to using the crescent shape over and over again - sort of dumpling inspired if not actually dumplings.

a decision is made

I've been trying to come to grips with how I felt about what I post here...everyone loves to show their best stuff, and it's a little scary to post the "less than perfect" attempts along the way...doubly so in some cases because my friends are all more experienced at this than I, and the quality of their work far surpasses what I am capable of at this time.

That being said, this is a blog about my journey - a journey towards become a better artist - and like all journeys, it's going to have its ups and its downs. I've decided to share as much of what I'm working on as is reasonable, so some of it will be great (I hope!) and some will be less so ;)

Let us hope that the great to less so ratio improves as time goes on :)

First Post

Well, I was looking for a good place to talk about my adventures in art, and to post some of the stuff I'm working on....and here it is.
