Pinup Inking

Here's the inked pinup sketch. Don't like the face, but short of fixing it in photoshop, there's not a lot I can do about it. Chalk it up to learning and move on. I still think I may try to colour this one, just for the experience.

Pinup Pencils - tightening

Here are the tightened pencils for the pinup...enjoyed the wood texturing, re-did the hair to a new style, and added lighting.

Pinup Rough Pencils

Spent the day working on a relatively simple pencil sketch for a pinup-style illustration. Thanks to my friend Simon for help with the anatomy, all mistakes are my own :) Tomorrow I plan to tighten up some of the pencils, hopefully finishing them on Saturday, when I can begin the inking process.

She's got legs...

....and I spent the afternoon trying to figure out how to draw them - I really do work better when I have some sort of mathematical formula for the ratio of body parts, and thanks to Jack Hamm, I now have one for legs :)

Pencil Fairy Tale Hero

He just seems like he should be pushing old crones into ovens...

Inked Sexy-Pose

Playing around with inking and laying things out without reference. Wish I had created more separation in the lower legs...next time!

Jinn Paladin

Here's a pencil sketch of a possible version of the Jinn in our conceptart.org challenge.

Final August Matte Painting - Vertigo

I'm not super happy with this one, which makes sense, 'cause I kinda dropped it in favor of inking, concepting and pencil sketching...but here it is.

Dr. Sketchy's at Vancouver Comic Con

Did a couple of hours of drawing this afternoon on Main St. at the local comic convention. Poses were mostly 2-5 minutes, with some 1 and 10s. Here are some highlights.

Sketchgroup - Motorcycle Centaurs

I did a quick sketch of the topic, but mostly I did human forms and worked on poses.

a day of gestures

Rather than work anything to completion, I spent about 3 hours today doing gestures and randomly doodling.

Desert Elf Archer

Here's the very first pass at an idea for the Desert Elf Archer for our Conceptart.org challenge.

Elephant God on Bristol Board

Well, today was mostly spent on life drawings that I don't have the inclination to scan in ;) Figured I'd share the redrawn and tightened version of "Death of the Elephant God". Tomorrow I shall ink it.

3 Jinn concept ideas

I ran off a couple of Jinn today at sketchgroup.

Inked Dude with Cloak

Attempt at cloak #2! I'm happier with this one, the shadows could be a bit more dynamic, but it reads much better I think.

Silhouettes for Concept Design

Here are some silhouettes for a challenge I'm helping with on Conceptart.org.

Cloaked Girl

Playing around with attempting textures, not very happy with those results, but the underlying drawing is strong ;)

Inked Poncey Villian

Another character - started as a photo reference, then added clothes and inked.

Vertigo Matte Painting Update #3

Just a quick update to increase the contrast and add textures to the railings.

Inked Space-Girl

Trying the ole' "two lights, one on each side" inking method. "What two lights?" you say? Hush!

Sunday, August 9, 2009

Colonial Marine

Started with a photo, added the costume and then inked. Less shadows than some of my other stuff, but I'm trying to see what I think works.

inking magic

Just your run-of-the-mill, spell-casting hottie ;)

Lucca from Chronotrigger

Jimmy and were drawing at Grind, and he was redoing the Chronotrigger characters in a *more* stylized form, so I decided to do this one in a more traditional, comic-book style.

matte painting update #2

Here's the next update :) Replaced the "building" on the right and added some highlights.

Inking Updates

Inked a couple of trees and another girl. Viewing the new Harry Potter movie prevented matte painting today, but that shall return tomorrow :)

inking girls with materials

Trying to start playing around with showing materials in my inking - not really happy with the results, but the concept is there ;)

Vertigo Matte update #1

Flipped the composition, added a dude to give a sense of direction, and started texturing.

August CGTantra matte concept

The topic this month is "Vertigo." The image should engender a "fear of heights".

Here is my initial concept, done in Vue 7.5.

inked photo reference

Instead of copying someone else's image, I used photo-ref to draw this, and then tried to ink it with a top-down lighting scheme...worked semi-ok, good learning experience :)

Inking shadow studies

Trying to get a better sense of form via shadows, and at the same time improve my inking techniques.

sketchgroup and concept for LOW

Here's today's sketchgroup pict, topic was "Cleavage" ;) I think I may use this for the 221A gathering on the 14th, after it's been painted over a bit in photoshop.
